Venom Review: A Messy Film Full of Potential

This past weekend Sony released Venom. The film, directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenerg and Kelly Marcel, stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, an investigative reporter who bonds with an alien symbiote and becomes a super powered anti-hero. This is Sony’s first attempt at releasing a film featuring the supporting characters of the Spider-Man universe, without the web-head himself. The success of this film will help determine the plans for a potential cinematic universe. The problem is, while the film had a great opening weekend, it’s hard to view it as anything more than something that had potential.

Venom 101: A History of the Spider-Man Villain

This week Sony releases the Spider-Man spinoff film, Venom. Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man and his vast library of supporting characters and villains. This film is the first attempt at expanding their own Spider-Man Cinematic Universe. As of now the film doesn’t connect to the Spider-Man we’ve seen in the MCU played by Tom Holland. Venom Rating May Mean an MCU Connection

The upcoming Sony Pictures Spider-Man spinoff, Venom, has officially been rated PG-13 by the MPAA. Many expected the film to be an R rated feature, similar to Deadpool and Logan, but the idea of it being PG-13 has been rumored for a few months. The news is a bit bittersweet as the character leans more towards the R rated type of film. But this may bode well for Spider-Man fans at large.

SDCC: Venom

The 2018 San Diego International Comic Con is in full swing and we’ve got all the big updates you want to hear about! Sony is working to expand their Spider-Man Universe with plans for multiple live action films featuring some supporting cast of the Spider-Man comics. The first of which is Venom, based on the much beloved villain/anti-hero. Tom Hardy leads the film, which co stars Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson. Director Ruben Fleischer, Hardy, and Ahmed were on hand at SDCC for a panel on the film and we’ve got all the details.
