“The Batman” – Everything We Know About The Dark Knight’s New Film

Batman returns to the silver screen next year and we have all the info here.

The past few months have held a lot of news concerning the upcoming Batman film from director Matt Reeves, but yesterday we received the most intriguing bit in the form of a camera test. Reeves dropped the video of a camera test with Robert Pattinson in the Bat-suit yesterday and the internet went crazy over it. You can watch the camera test below and then we’ll dive into what to expect from the upcoming film.

The new film, entitled The Batman, is rumored to take place during Bruce Wayne’s second year as the Dark Knight. It’s unclear if this was a specific choice by Reeves based on the story he developed, or if this was done to distance the new Batman from the one Ben Affleck portrayed in the DCEU. Either way, the film is said to still be part of the DCEU in some capacity. We should know more after the film’s release in terms of how interconnected the film is with the rest of WB and DC’s films.

In terms of story, Reeves and WB have been quiet about the exact details concerning the film’s plot, but Reeves has stated that he was crafting a true detective story. Some of the previous films have touched on the detective side of Batman’s legacy but few have every truly dived into that element. It will be interesting to see how Reeves handles this, especially given the cast that’s been announced so far. Pattinson will be joined by Andy Serkis as Alfred, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as D.A. Gil Colson, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Hopefully we’ll get to see plenty of screen time for all the rogues currently cast, and maybe a few others as well.

The Batman is currently filming in the UK, and is set for release on June 25th 2021. We’ll continue to track the news on the film and update whenever anything breaks. Until then you can enjoy watching the camera test above, and join me in waiting slightly impatiently to see what Reeves, Pattinson, composer Michael Giacchino, and everyone else involved- have in store for us.
