Westworld Walkthrough: S2E8 – “Kiksuya”

The hit HBO show Westworld is back for a second season. Each week we’re going to be walking through each new episode, and giving our thoughts on how thing played out. Fair warning we’re going to get into some spoiler territory here.

Throughout the entire series we’ve seen the Ghost Nation, the Native Americans of Westworld, as a mysterious and dangerous force within the park. A group that is purely violent. That resides within the outer reaches of the park. A place that is known to be harsher. When they show up it usually isn’t a good sign. But the show has yet to really dive in to their stories. That changed this week, as we were given a look into the story of their apparent leader Akecheta.

Before Arnold’s death Akecheta’s tribe was peaceful. But afterwards, Ford restructured their narrative to turn them into the “murderous savages” they came to be known as. But Akecheta had a bit of an awakening upon Arnold’s death, and it lived within him all these years. He had found Logan when William sent him off naked on a horse at the end of their first trip there. His meeting with Logan helped truly open his mind more. And for all these years he’s been slowly adapting just as Dolores and Maeve have more recently. Working to find out the truth of his existence.

There wasn’t too much more revealed in this episode aside from the fact that Akecheta has been “awake” to the real world for years. But since his people are simply looked at as these “brutal indians,” it’s easy for him to disguise his true purpose. It’s unclear what his goal is currently, but it does seem as though he has a bigger plan than what we’ve seen thus far. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up helping to lead the remaining hosts out of the park and becomes one of the main power players.

I truly hope that we get a lot more of Akecheta moving forward. His heartbreaking backstory is one of the best stories this season, and Zahn McClarnon proved this episode that he’s got a hell of a lot of talent. We probably won’t see too much of Akecheta the rest of this season as things begin wrapping up, but hopefully season three will reveal a lot more.

That’s it for today, but check back with us for our look into the penultimate episode of Westworld Season two, “Vanishing Point.”
