Countdown to Infinity: MCU Timeline Pt. 7 2010-2011 (Rise of the Strongest Avengers)

Leading up to the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War, we’re taking a look back at every element of the MCU thus far in our series, Countdown to Infinity! This film is the culmination of everything that began with the first Iron Man film in 2008, and so we want to prepare you for what may be the biggest film of all time. We’ll dive into all 18 films released thus far, each of the TV series that are considered part of the MCU, and a selection of other shorts and comics considered canon within the MCU. As part of our Countdown To Infinity Series We’ll also be looking at the full MCU timeline. We continue today with a look at the history of the MCU through 2010-2011, as the Hulk becomes a hero and Thor becomes worthy of his power!

At this point in the MCU, Bruce Banner has turned into the Hulk, Tony Stark has become Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow have joined SHIELD, and Cap is still frozen in ice. (#capsicle) What comes next? An Expo, a banishment, and an Abomination!

January 2010

  • Throughout January of 2010 Tony Stark works to take down a hacker known as Cordo Gaines who was hired by the Ten Rings to help them retrieve Stark Industries information. With Gaines’ help the Ten Rings steal Stark weapons that are being transported to be destroyed. Tony is able to find the weapons and destroy them himself.

February 22nd 2010

  • Tony Stark saves an airman test piloting a vehicle designed by Justin Hammer in the Congo while attempting to take out the Ten Rings. He realizes that the palladium in his arc reactor is slowly poisoning him.

March 19th 2010

  • SHIELD begins test trials on subjects for Project TAHITI.

April 12th 2010

  • 158 days since Bruce Banner’s last “incident,” he has an accident at his job, causing some of his blood to spill into a soda bottle. Later that day he sends a sample of his blood to Samuel Sterns.

April 21st 2010

  • The test subjects for Project TAHITI begin to go insane. SHIELD wipes their minds and gives them new identities.

May 7th 2010

  • Tony Stark opens the Stark Expo. He is then summoned for a senate hearing the next day.

May 8th 2010

  • Tony Stark appears before the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Weaponized Suit Defense Program Hearings. The hearings are chaired by Senator Sterns and James Rhodes and Justin Hammer are called to testify against Tony.

May 12th 2010

  • Tony Stark appoints Pepper Potts as CEO of Stark Industries.
  • A Ten Rings member supplies Ivan Vanko with materials to get him into the Grand Prix in Monaco.
  • Natasha Romanoff is sent to work undercover at Stark Industries.

May 14th 2010

  • General Thaddeus’ Ross unit, led by Emil Blonsky hunts the Hulk in Rochina, Brazil.

May 15th 2010

  • Bruce Banner wakes up in Guatemala and decides to head to Culver university to get data on the Bio-Tech Force Enhancement Project.

May 19th 2010

  • Tony lets Rhodey try on one of the Iron Man suits.

May 21st 2010

  • Natasha Romanoff meets with Tony Stark under the guise of Natalie Rushman.

May 23rd 2010

  • Tony Stark is attacked by Ivan Vanko during the Grand Prix in Monaco. During their fight he uses the Mark 5 armor, which is housed in a briefcase for the first time. Vanko is arrested, and that evening Tony meets with him in his cell.

May 24th 2010

  • Justin Hammer orchestrates Ivan Vanko’s prison escape, and Vanko agrees to make Hammer weapon suits.

May 29th 2010

  • Tony Stark gets drunk at his Birthday party and fights Rhodey.

May 30th 2010

  • Erik Selvig joins Jane Foster in monitoring atmospheric disturbances in New Mexico.
  • Thor’s coronation is interrupted by a potential theft in Odin’s Vault by Frost Giants.
  • Rhodey delivers the Mark 2 Armor to Edwards AFB.
  • Tony meets with Nick Fury at Randy’s Donuts and is given lithium to fight the effects of his poisoning. Natasha Romanoff is revealed as a SHIELD Agent.
  • Tony Stark finds recordings from his father Howard left on film reels from the Stark Expo, he begins to make breakthroughs on a new element that can cure his poisoning.
  • Thor takes Loki, Lady Sif and the Warriors three to Jotunheim to seek justice for the attempted theft in Odin’s vault. Odin arrives breaking up the fight.

May 31st 2010

  • Odin banishes Thor to Earth and he is found by Jane Foster and her team.
  • Tony builds a small particle accelerator and creates a new Element.
  • Bruce Banner arrives at Culver University.
  • Ivan Vanko hijacks Justin Hammer’s presentation at the Stark Expo. Vanko has turned Hammer’s suits into drones which attack the crowd, which includes a young Peter Parker.
  • Tony and Rhodey stop Vanko, and he blows himself up. Hammer is arrested.
  • Coulson stops a robbery at a gas station on his way to Puente Antiguo to investigate Thor’s Hammer Mjolnir.

June 1st 2010

  • Fury sends Clint Barton to assist Coulson in New Mexico.
  • In Puente Antiguo a local man discovers Mojlnir, multiple townspeople come to try to remove the hammer.
  • Coulson arrives in New Mexico and quarantines Mojlnir. Hawkeye arrives soon after.
  • Loki discovers his true heritage and Odin falls into Odinsleep.
  • Bruce Banner infiltrates Culver University and obtains the data from Betty Ross’ computer.
  • Betty Ross’ boyfriend Leonard Samson informs Ross of Banner’s whereabouts.
  • Thor attempts to reclaim Mojlnir, is unsuccessful and captured by SHIELD.
  • Loki appears before Thor.
  • Emil Blonsky is given an unauthorized low dose of the Bio Tech Enhancement Serum.
  • Nick Fury sends Black Widow to spy on Banner.
  • Thor explains the theory of the Nine Realms to Jane Foster

June 2nd 2010

  • Sif and the Warriors Three arrive on Earth to Help Thor.
  • Banner and Betty attempt to leave Culver University and are met by General Ross’ unit. Banner turns into the Hulk and battles the unit before escaping with an injured Betty.
  • Thor battles the Destroyer which is under Loki’s control.
  • Black Widow informs Fury of Emil Blonsky’s enhanced abilities.
  • Tony Stark has a debriefing with Nick Fury and is offered a role as a consultant for the Avengers Initiative, he accepts as long as Senator Sterns awards him a medal for his services.
  • Hawkeye and Coulson move the Destroyer’s inanimate body to a SHIELD site in Roswell.
  • The Frost Giants invade Asgard and Loki kills Laufey.
  • Loki and Thor fight on the bifrost bridge, Loki loses the battle and falls into space.

June 3rd 2010

  • Fury holds a meeting with SHIELD agents explaining they are refocusing their efforts on alien threats from space.
  • Bruce Banner and Betty Ross hide out in a small town motel.
  • Emil Blonsky heals from his injuries during the battle at Culver University with the Hulk.

June 4th 2010

  • Banner and Betty arrive in New York and meet with Samuel Sterns. They are found by General Ross and taken into custody.
  • Blonsky has Sterns turn him into the Abomination.
  • Hulk and Abomination fight, after winning the fight The Hulk flees.
  • Black Widow takes Sterns into custody.

June 5th 2010

  • The World Security Council awards SHIELD more funds to help research the Tesseract.

  • Fury asks Erik Selvig to help work on Project PEGASUS and study the Tesseract.

July 4th 2010

  • Phil Coulson and Jasper Sitwell discuss how to prevent Blonsky from being part of the Avengers Initiative, despite the World Security Council wanting him on the team.

July 5th 2010

  • Bruce Banner settles into a cabin in Bella Coola, BC to work on controlling the Hulk.
  • Tony Stark meets with General Ross to discuss the Avengers Initiative, After their discussion Ross refuses to allow Blonsky to be part of Stark’s team.

  • Dead Before Arrival starring Simon Williams hits theaters.

  • Matthew Ellis is elected as President of the US.

  • Work begins on Stark Tower in New York City.

December 27th 2010

  • Roxxon Norco Oil company spills millions of gallons of oil off Pensacola, FL and faces no consequences.

March 18th 2011

  • Banner turns into the Hulk for the first time in 8 months after travelling to India and being attacked by local bandits.

April 11th 2011

  • Thor warns Hogun that his home planet of Vanaheim is in danger of an attack by the Marauders.
  • SHIELD begins to help Jane Foster search for Thor.
  • Jane Foster and her team unsuccessfully attempt to open up a wormhole.

June 23rd 2011

  • General Ross experiences a heart attack and goes into triple bypass surgery to save his life.

July 14th 2011

  • Tony Stark gives Rhodey a new version of the War Machine Armor.

September 11th 2011

  • Pepper Potts gives Tony Stark a set of magnets from Japan that keep their magnetic power permanently. Tony studies the magnets to apply their abilities to a new suit.

September 13th 2011

  • War Machine fights Ten Rings’ allies in Mumbai, India.

October 5th 2011

  • A Russian Oil team discovers the Valkyrie bomber in the Arcitc. SHIELD agents recover Steve Rogers’ frozen body from the wreckage.

October 6th 2011

  • SHIELD turns the scavenged parts of the Destroyer armor are turned into a hand held weapon.
  • Hawkeye is sent to work on Project PEGASUS.

October 7th 2011

  • Steve Rogers is thawed from the ice that he was frozen in within the Valkyrie ship.

October 8th 2011

  • Rogers wakes up and escapes SHIELD Headquarters in New York and is stopped by Nick Fury.

December 11th 2011

  • War Machine fights some of the Ten Rings’ allies in the Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

We’ll stop there for now. The MCU takes it’s biggest and boldest step next as the heroes of the Marvel Universe meet for the first time, after which Tony Stark struggles to cope with the events of their meeting…
