SDCC: Call of Duty Heads to WW2 for Zombie Destruction

There’s usually not much Big video game news out of SDCC. But this year Activision and Sledgehammer games decided to bring their highly anticipated Call of Duty: WW2 Zombies game to the pop culture event.

The panel consisted of creative Director Cameron Dayton, Sledgehammer director of development Jon Horsley and the core cast of the game. Dayton, who previously worked on the game Dead Space explained that the main focus for the game was the horror element. Saying that they really deconstructed the entire horror genre in hopes to build something that would terrify fans in a very interactive way. They also said that the story for the film revolves around the MFAA team, which was responsible for recovering famous works of art from destroyed areas during WW2, and that while they go searching for this fine art they run into zombies and other villains.

The cast for the game includes David Tennant (Doctor Who), who plays an antiques Call of Dutyexpert who is released from prison to work with the team. Tenant explained that there was some improv swearing which came easy to him due to his Scottish heritage. Elodie Young (Daredevil) portrays an art historian from the Louvre, and a member of the French Resistance who joins the team after her father is captured by Nazis. Young was drawn to role given that her Grandfather and Great Grandfather were actual members of the French Resistance. Katheryn Winnick (Vikings) plays Marie Fisher, a German born, Cambridge educated, US Spy who is in search of her brother Klaus. Udo Kier (Beware The Batman) portrays Nazi Doctor Straub, who has created some form of new soldier that is “the Devil himself.”
